AERRL, in collaboration with Infrabel has launching the second phase of the study project to lead the way towards the decarbonisation of the railway transport in Europe.
Description:
With the support of eolos, this study has explored the feasibility of operating rolling stock using alternative traction systems to diesel.
These include:
- biofuels (such as hydrotreated vegetable oil, ammonia, and renewable natural gas),
- hybrid solutions (pantograph/battery and pantograph/diesel),
which have been assessed and compared with diesel and fully electrified (catenary) systems.
